Streaming Media.

If you read my previous post, you have come to the realization that I am a nerd. That said, I'm about to nerd out on you for the next few posts.

I love TV, Movies, and Music. I like them better when I can access, what I want, when I want, where I want. (sounds selfish but stick with me.) I also want a nice interface that's easy to navigate. A list of filenames only is just ugly.

That's where Plex comes in.

It started as a Macintosh only application that has rapidly evolved. Now available as a media server for Mac and Windows, Plex can serve up media to other Macs, iPhones and iPads, AppleTV, LG connected TVs and Blu-Ray players, and now the Roku media streamer.

Now the Plex client for Roku is still in beta and I got a Roku box just to test it out, but it is making some quick progress and developer Jonny Wray (twitter: @jonny_wray) is doing some great work.

Here's a shot of the Roku Plex Client in action:

That's all I've got for now. I'll be giving a more in-depth review of the Roku for those who are in the market for a Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. streamer on the cheap.

cheers.

  1. Very cool! We got a Roku a couple months back and I've been trying to convince Lisa to get rid of cable. I hadn't heard of this channel yet, but look forward to checking it out.
